Being a Deputy in the Blaine County Detention Facility is a highly skilled profession. They are responsible for protecting the security and safety of officers, visitors, and inmates. Detention Deputies attend the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy for 5 weeks, complete an extensive in-house JTO program and receive annual specialized training.
Detention Deputies perform a long list of interesting and challenging duties daily:
Assessing Inmates for Security Classifications
Booking and/or Releasing Multiple Inmates
Controlling Inmate Safety
Ensuring Inmates Receive Medical, Dental and Mental Health Screenings through our Licensed Providers
Managing Clothing, Property and Hygiene Supply Exchange
Performing Routine Security Checks
Processing Inmates in and out for the Work Release Program
Processing Legal and Financial Documents
Provide Courtroom and Jury Security
Providing Suicide Watch every 15 Minutes when needed
Supervising Inmate Workers
Supervising Inmates in Video Arraignment in our Facility and in the Actual Courtroom
Supervising Meal Delivery three times a day
Transporting Inmates to and from Other Facilities
Most importantly, our Detention Deputies provide safety and security for all the inmates, staff, visitors and citizens of Blaine County.

Detention Deputies generally work four 10-hour shifts per week. The schedule rotation includes days, nights, weekends, graveyard and holidays.
