BLAINE COUNTY SHERIFF SEARCH AND RESCUE
K-9 UNIT
Mission Statement - It is the mission of the Blaine County Search and Rescue (BCSAR) K-9 Unit to appropriately train volunteer K-9 teams that will support the responsibility of Sheriff’s Office to provide skilled search and rescue efforts for the County.
Operations - K-9 teams report to the unit commander and will adhere to the BCSAR K-9 Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG). Additional guidelines have been adopted by BCSAR for direction in training, certification and operations.
Training Requirements – In order for a K- 9 team to participate in training they must complete the Standards of Performance described in the SOG.
Standards - Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG); Area Search; Wilderness Trailing; Night Hasty Search; Avalanche; Human Remains Detection (HRD)
Operational Requirements - In order to be considered operational for search and rescue missions (non avalanche), a team must complete all of the following:
· BCSAR SOG Standards of Performance
· BCSAR Night Hasty Search Certification
· BCSAR Level III Wilderness Trailing or BCSAR Level II Area Search Certifications.
In order to be considered operational for avalanche search and rescue missions, a team must complete all of the following:
· BCSAR SOG Standards of Performance
· BCSAR Level I Avalanche Certification
