Explosive Device Found

At approximately 1630 hours on 04/24/13 the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious explosive device in a mailbox on Hyndeman View Drive between Ketchum and Hailey, Idaho.  The reporting party was a caretaker for the East Fork residence.

Upon arrival, BCSO officers confirmed the suspicious nature of the device, secured the scene, and established a safety perimeter.  The Twin Falls Bomb Squad was requested and arrived on scene at approximately 2000 hours.  After assessment, the Bomb Squad was able to neutralize the device and determine that it was an improvised explosive device containing projectiles capable of increasing the destructive force of an explosion.  East Fork Road was closed for approximately one hour between 2010-2110 hours.

Due to the concern for public safety, the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office wants the community to be aware of the incident and is asking that if anyone sees any suspicious items or activity to call 911 immediately. Individuals with any information regarding this matter should contact BCSO at (208)788-5555. The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office has notified other local Law Enforcement agencies of the incident and has reached out to Federal authorities for collaborative assistance. Sheriff Gene D. Ramsey, stated, “Without jeopardizing the investigation, we want the public to know that this was not a pressure style cooking device. This case is under investigation and will be a priority until the person or persons responsible are identified and apprehended.“  No one was injured and there are no suspects at this time.
