INCIDENT: Two Vehicle Fatality Crash Approx. 1 mile East of Stanton Crossing on US Hwy 20.
DATE/TIME: October 26, 2010, approx. 7:32 AM
At approximately 7:32 AM on October 26, 2010 the Blaine County Communications Center was notified of a two vehicle fatality crash on US Hwy 20 between Stanton Crossing and the US Hwy 20 and State Hwy 75 Junction. Fifteen year old Austin Hennefer of Carey succumbed to his injuries at the crash scene.
The two vehicles involved in the crash were a 1993 Honda Accord driven by forty five year old Gooding resident Sergio Lopez-Rodriguez and a 1996 Buick Century driven by fifteen year old Austin Hennefer of Carey. Lopez-Rodriguez was the only occupant of the Honda. The passengers in the Buick were fifteen year old Jennifer Mares of Picabo who was seated in the back seat behind the driver and forty one year old Jeff Mecham who was seated in the front passenger seat. Mares was life flighted from the crash scene to St. Lukes Magic Valley in Twin Falls. Mecham and Lopez-Rodriguez were transported by ambulance and later taken by life flight to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
The Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, Wood River Fire and Rescue, Carey Quick Response, Idaho Fish and Game and the Idaho Department of Transportation all responded to the crash scene.
The road conditions were icy at the time of the crash. The crash is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
